FINE ARTS TOPICS: TIME BASED MEDIA FOR VISUAL ARTISTS in Fall 2019 (AR3091)

This course will cover foundational skills associated with the production of video, performance and sound projects. Historical, theoretical, and aesthetic approaches to video art will also be surveyed and analyzed. Project planning, video and audio capture, framing and composition, compression and sizing for output, sound recording, lighting, non-linear editing, sequencing of images, the use of typography and graphics in animation and the presentation of video installations will be covered according to students’ specific projects and interests. Students will work collaboratively and individually to increase their capacity for using time-based media as an avenue for creative expression and exploration, as well as for adding a digital element to their own portfolio.
