The course aims to broaden and deepen our understanding of the social, economic and environmental dimensions and challenges of our modern economies.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Study the practical and conceptual economic underpinning of social innovation.
  2. Understand the nature of public policy, its rationale, costs and benefits when considering different types and forms of goods and investments.
  3. Assess and measure the role of social innovators and entrepreneurs in boosting economic growth and performance.
  4. Apply the concept of externalities when making economic, social, political choices.
  5. Assess the role of the government in areas that have a direct impact on economic performance and growth (i.e. welfare, taxation, spending in healthcare and education, support of entrepreneurship,…)
  6. Use the mathematical and algebraic applications to demonstrate how individuals, firms and policy makers attempt to maximize utility when facing resource scarcity and constraint.
